About this Event
Zero 2030 - the community led Adur & Worthing Climate Conference
All are welcome: community, business, public, health and academic sectors; schools, colleges, individuals, groups and organisations. Come and help create a cleaner, greener, more sustainable, resilient and connected Adur and Worthing.
Join us for a day of insight, inspiration, motivation, activity and involvement; a springboard to working more closely with each other on the climate challenge.
Adur & Worthing Councils declared a climate emergency in July 2019. They have committed to work towards being carbon neutral by 2030. What steps are now needed from us all to extend this action across our whole area?
The event will feature an inspirational range of speakers in the morning and motivational facilitators in the afternoon at participatory workshops. Everyone is invited to input ideas and actions to generate shared solutions to climate change.
Coordinated jointly by Worthing Climate Action Network, Transition Town Worthing and Adur & Worthing Councils, the event also benefits from the support and input of a wealth of local projects, organisations and businesses.
The afternoon workshops will cover key themes such as transport, waste, energy and carbon reduction, water, food, land use, spirit, economics and business. Local experts will share local solutions being delivered in and around Adur and Worthing. At these participatory spaces, delegates are invited to share their ideas and priorities to radically reduce carbon emissions and create new projects, partnerships and programmes to deliver a more sustainable Adur and Worthing.
Outputs from the workshops will form the community response to Adur and Worthing’s Sustainability Framework: SustainableAW, created by Adur & Worthing Councils, and ensure a stronger, more joined up approach between us all.
Speakers include Isabella Tree, the award-winning author and conservationist, who lives with her husband, the environmentalist Charlie Burrell, in the middle of a pioneering rewilding project in West Sussex. Her latest book ‘Wilding - the Return of Nature to a British Farm’ was winner of the 2019 Richard Jefferies prize for nature writing and was chosen by the Smithsonian as one of their top ten science books for 2018.
Existing projects will be showcasing their fantastic, transformational work in our ‘community marketplace’ at stalls where you can find out how you can get involved.
There will be a free vegetarian lunch and an evening of networking until 7:30pm at the Assembly Hall bar.
Thanks to everyone who generously donated to our Crowdfunder - we appreciate the support!
