Simply cooking in harmony
After training at the Cordon Bleu school of cookery in London, Hilary started as third chef at the esteemed Holbeck Hall Hotel in Scarborough and once gained professional qualifications from the institute of hotel and catering management moved to London providing directors lunches and managing staff restaurants in the City, moving back to Yorkshire later managing contract catering units and assistant to the area manager
In 1986 took the helm of Food Solutions which over 25 years provided catering from 10 to 2500 for companies , prestigious events and famous people including cooking weekend house parties for the Duke of Norfolk’s family over 16 years.
Having taught adult education courses in York and students through City & Guilds at Selby College for many years, Harmony House Cookery School was launched in 2007 to inspire less confident cooks that cooking can be fun, simple & look stylish, also provide a fun day out for those who enjoy cooking & experimenting to cook together. Many people learned new skills in the kitchen at Harmony House and still use the recipes and have lived to tell the tale !! During that time Hilary had cookery slots on Radio York and in 2014 wrote a cookery book meals in minutes.
In 2017 together with husband Paul bought Grimston House now Westergate House which offers accommodation with small event hospitality catering and cookery demonstrations. Hilary continues to be proactive in sharing cookery skills, providing meals and welcoming guests with the semi retirement work life balance of a living in a beautiful house and gardens.
However in the light of the new normal decided to resurrect 'simply cooking in harmony' so people can again cook together online learn new ideas and have some company or family bonding time.
Cooking together should be fun and with expert tuition in the comfort of your own kitchen what better way to learn new recipes, skills and share time with other like minded people and cooking together is much more enjoyable.
She was also a certified trainer for the chartered institute of environmental health and shared recipes tips and hints for cooking with listeners radio York for over 10 years
