Artists' General Benevolent Institution

Who are we?

The AGBI is the only artist-led benevolent fund supporting professional visual artists unable to work due to injury or illness. Our Children’s Fund specifically supports children of artists who have lost the support of one or both parents.

Who do we help?

Any professional visual artist, no matter what their medium, can apply for help if they have earned their living or major part of it from art. Surviving partners and orphaned children of artists are also eligible to apply.

Why Exhibitions and Events?

As part of our mission to raise awareness of our vital work, we utilise the exhibition space to host a range of exhibitions and events. The AGBI is not a commercial gallery, and it does not engage in the sale of artworks, our exhibitions highlight the role of the AGBI in supporting artists and to attract new audiences to learn about the grants and assistance we provide.

The overall objectives of the exhibition space are as follows;

  1. To raise the profile of the AGBI amongst professional visual artists.
  2. To broaden the spectrum of professional visual artists who meet our criteria
  3. To offer artist led support with our ‘More than Grants Initiatives’ such as Artist’s Talks, Artists’ Sessions, Artist Led Events (book clubs, film nights etc), Stewards’ Engagement Events. All of which support and align with the charitable objectives of the AGBI and delivered with minimal expense.
  4. To increase our donations, engagement and support for the AGBI from a wider audience than we currently rely on.
