Heartseedling
About Heartseedling
Welcome to Heartseedling, founded by Victoria (Vix) Marsland, a passionate food grower and creative. Heartseedling aims to unearth human stories, motivations and connection, initially exploring why people grow food and unearthing profound ties to self, heritage, well-being and community.
"The scent of tomatoes is an instant time machine," Vix shares. "It transports me to my grandfather's greenhouse in Bucks during the 1980s… the warmth on my face, that unmistakable fragrance. It's a visceral reminder of how deeply our senses link us to our past."
This simple sensory memory, a desire to grow her own pasta sauce, creating healthy homegrown food, adopting an overgrown allotment and support the community during the covid pandemic was a catalyst. Heartseedling emerged and in 2025 is focused around unearthing and sharing the diverse stories and reasons behind why we put our hands in soil.
Vix believes that growing food is more than just cultivation; it's about self-discovery, heritage, well-being and fostering relationships. It’s about personal experience and the power of stories, narratives that inspire us, bring us closer, influence us, motivate action and transfer knowledge across generations. When we share our experiences, we build empathy and strengthen our communities. She is committed to inspiring others through these vital narratives and lived experiences, cultivating deeper bonds and building a more resilient future, starting with the small seed of an idea...
If Tomatoes Could Talk!
How can a single scent transport us across decades? This question lies at the heart of "The Tomato House," the debut exhibition from Heartseedling. A multi-sensory experience that explores our deep bond with food, nature, and ourselves – all through the lens of the world's most consumed fruit: the humble tomato!
Visitors will experience the authentic aroma of tomatoes while engaging with tactile art and captivating "Heirloom Stories." A centrepiece, "The BIG Tomato: A Living Canvas," invites visitors to contribute their own growing narratives directly to the installation, collaborating as part of their visit. The TomatoHouse opens for 2 days on 6th and 7th September 2026, The Patch, High Wycombe Bucks, come and join us in a space brimming with tomatoes! Tickets are available here
