Honorary Alderman Merlita Bryan
Merlita Bryan is a dedicated advocate for celebrating and uplifting positive role models in the community. A former Councillor for the Arboretum ward in Nottingham, she served as Sheriff of Nottingham (2012-2013) and later as Lord Mayor of Nottingham (2013-2014). In recognition of her contributions, she was honored with the title of Honorary Alderman in 2023.
Passionate about representation and empowerment, Merlita launched the Black Achieving Males (BAM) Awards in 2011, recognizing the achievements of black men in Nottingham. In 2016, she expanded the initiative to celebrate both men and women who make a positive impact. Her mission is to grow these events year after year, creating a platform for inspiring role models and strengthening community connections.
