Llangollen Adventure Lectures organised by Dave Manby and Pete Carol

Llangollen has a rich history of outdoor adventure, the valley’s natural resources have lent themselves to adventure for many years.

The River Dee is one of the UK’s most reliable and well known white water rivers, with a history of racing and touring in canoes and kayaks, now rafted for pleasure most days of the year and was also once the home of regular cardboard canoe races down the rapids of the Serpents Tail. In the past charity rallies have brought thousands of kayakers to the river in the course of a single weekend.

The limestone crags of the Eglwyseg Escarpment have been climbed for generations. The crags extend for four or five miles, with bouldering, scrambling, trad and sport climbing.

The hills, mountains and river are noted for their conservation value with several special areas of conservation.

Mountain biking is well represented with numerous trails and several downhill courses including a National Downhill Racing venue at One Giant Leap Llangollen.

Even wild swimmers have their local favourites and there is sport to be had locally for cavers and mine explorers.

There is a large and varied community of adventurers here with stories to share from their adventures in the valley and way beyond and the Llangollen Adventure Lectures are here to provide an opportunity to share those experiences, to inspire and entertain.

The lectures are organised by Pete Carol and Dave Manby.

Pete is the founder of ProAdventure. Pete is an all round adventurer, currently spending most of his outdoor time kayaking on the waters of the Dee Valley and Racing in Canoe Slalom races.

Dave Manby has been a white water paddler for many years. He is known for many trips and events, including the 1976 Dudh Khosi, Kayaking down Everest expedition, organising the Mike Jones weekends in Llangollen, rafting and extreme races on the Coruh River in Turkey and many more.
