SCPHN Programme Teams in London

SCPHN Programme Teams: City, University of London; Brunel University London; King’s College London; London South Bank University; University of Greenwich

We are pleased you are interested in pursuing a career as an SCPHN within Health Visiting or School Nursing. In order to undertake an SCPHN programme in London you need to be sponsored by a community healthcare organisation, sponsorships are usually advertised by the organisations through NHS Jobs. Part of the recruitment process involves applicants passing a numeracy and literacy assessment.

All scheduled assessment dates are listed at the bottom of the page, click on the date you want to book and follow the instructions. You can only hold one booking at a time so please do not book multiple events.

For the September 2018 and January 2019 intakes a variety of healthcare organisations and universities are participating in a centralised numeracy and literacy assessment process. They will make this clear in their advertising material

NB Applicants can only attend the assessment ONCE each academic year. If you fail the test and attend for another assessment the new assessment data will not be recorded on the database only the first failed attempt will be recorded. You will be able to undertake the assessment the following year. If you passed the assessment last year you do not need to re-take the tests. You will require confirmation of this so contact the organisers if you no longer have the original confirmation.

 Information for candidates:

  1. Potential applicants need to attend one of the numeracy and literacy assessments. It does not matter which university you attend. You should expect to be at the university for approximately 1.5 hours.
  2. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time advertised. If you arrive after the assessment has started you will not be able to take the assessment and will have to rebook for a different date.
  3. If you attend for the assessment you are deeming yourself fit to sit the assessment and cannot at a later date say you were not fit.

 What to bring:

  1. You need to bring photo identification (passport or driving licence) to the session. If you do not bring photo ID you will not be able to take the assessment and will have to attend a different event. If you require extra time due to a learning difficulty such as dyslexia you will require evidence to support this.
  2. Calculators are NOT permitted for use during the assessment.

 After the assessment:

  1. Following the assessment you will be sent confirmation of your result using the email address you entered on Eventbrite.
  2. Sponsoring trusts will seek confirmation of the result of the assessment from the assessment organisers for candidates they are considering shortlisting. Trusts will contact shortlisted candidates directly the universities will not hold this information.

In order to prepare for the numeracy and literacy assessment there are sample papers on the City, University of London website: then click on the ‘How to apply’ icon. The following may also be a helpful resource:

We look forward to seeing you at one of the assessment sessions. If you have any questions about recruitment to the SCPHN programme you should contact the university you are interested in attending. If you do not have this information already search for the programme on the university’s website and you should be given a contact.
