SLOW Stitch Community
Yvonne created this Community a few years ago to bring simple textile experiences to a range of audiences that also has a mindful content to support those who feel the need to slow down and support their mental health.
She taught a number of in person courses where beginners were most welcome as the work is based on using a simple running stitch on readily available used fabrics.
Those with experience of making textiles, at whatever level, also enjoy it as it adds another reflective dimension to sewing or embroidery and their art practice.
It needs very little equipment and so is transportable, can be done anywhere and can be a source of calm, joy and engagement.
This work reflects the textiles of India and Bangladesh in Kantha work and Japanese Boro mending, so has many multi-cultural links.
In March 2019 Yvonne created a Facebook group SLOW stitch community. The aim was to create a kind and supportive place for anyone to share their SLOW, simple but beautiful handmade work. She was amazed and truly grateful to see such inspiration and support arise there.
As a result, she began to bring simple practises to the group alongside
creating some online and off-line courses and workshops and subsequently her book
