The Smithdown Litfest has author talks and readings for all ages, in community venues along the Smithdown Road corridor ‒ from Toxteth to Allerton. The aim of the Litfest is to present a programme of stimulating and enjoyable author events for local residents, and to encourage visitors from Liverpool and beyond to experience the culture and heritage in our area too.

This year’s Litfest is from Friday 29th September to Sunday 8th October 2017.

Venues include Toxteth Library, Ullet Road Unitarian Church and the Penny Lane Development Trust. Entrance to most events will be free of charge, but even free tickets will need to be ordered in advance.

The authors will chat about their writing lives and books, read excerpts from their work, and answer questions from the audience. Each event will last for 1 to 1½ hours.

The Litfest was the idea of local resident Ian Skillicorn, who runs his own independent publishing company, Corazon Books, and who moved to the area last year – although his family connections to the Smithdown Road area, and Wavertree in particular, go back many generations. The Lifest also has the support of Greenbank ward councillors, and local venues. It will be organised through a not-for-profit community interest company called Stories Unlimited (Company No. 07185399).
