The Pinner & Northwood Business Club (originally the Pinner & District Business Club) was founded in 1981 by David Rayner as an informal group of local business people who could get together to socialise and network with each other as well as discuss issues of concern, raise money for local charities and act as a voice for the local business community.
The club started to hold monthly lunch meetings to further its aims and objectives. Wednesday was the chosen day because, at the time, Wednesday was Pinner’s traditional 'early closing’ day and many of the retailers were more easily able to attend.
Although the club likes to retain its relaxed approached, its three objectives and in no particular order or greater or lesser importance than the other are to:-
· Support the local community
· Raise funds for local charities and good causes
· Build business relationships
The club continues to foster the same aims and objectives today as it did back when it was formed. The club has a friendly and active membership and provides support, advice and relevant up to date news and information to members and visitors alike. The club has both formal and informal links with other local groups and associations and actively lobbies and campaigns on issues of interest and relevance to the business community. It has a committee which meets regularly each year where it’s officers are elected by the members.
The monthly lunches are held at local restaurants and golf courses in historic Pinner and Northwood on the last Wednesday of each month (except August and November). Eminent speakers provide informative and interesting input and there is a warm welcome for everybody. Indeed, we welcome guests to visit as many times as they like.
The club also has an active social calendar and in recent years has organised an Annual Golf Day, a trip to the Royal Windsor Races and a Summer Barbeque. The very special Christmas lunch is a particularly enjoyable event too which is normally held on the first Friday in December.
As befits an organisation representing local businesses, the club’s members are mindful of those less fortunate than themselves and every year a significant amount of money is raised and donated to local charities and good causes.
