Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership are delighted to be supporting Tyne and Wear Heritage Forum's conference by offering this fringe event to compliment TWHF's Heritage Trails conference.
This event starts by meeting TVCRP staff at Newcastle Central Station at 0930 hrs and will board a train to Blaydon. At Blaydon, Susan, a newcastle City Guide will lead a guided walk of Blaydon's industrial heritage.
The guided walk includes the following elements:

the Newcastle to Carlisle Railway. The stretch between Hewham and Blaydon was opened in 1835 to ease the movement of lead to the refinery at Blaydon
</LI>
<LI>
An opportunity to view the Blaydon Races sculpture and hear about the Blaydon silver refinery
</LI>
<LI>
A walk up Blaydon Burn where an area of 17th/18th century watermills became subsumed by Joseph Cowen's brickworks in the 19th. century, the track follows Cowen's original rail line down the burn to his quays on the River Tyne.
</LI>
<LI>
Summerhill bank with it's charming stone houses and the water fountain Joseph Cowen provided to bring fresh water to the people of Blaydon
</LI>
</UL>
The cost of the return rail ticket and a cup of coffee at Pumphrey's coffee house are included in the price. Attendees will return from Blaydon station to Newcastle and will arrive in Newcastle at 1340 hrs. 
Please note:
This walk is not suitable for people with limited mobility and there are steps to climb, starting immediately by using the railway footbridge. Blaydon Burn is also an incline.
Wear stout shoes/boots – the terrain may be muddy. Distance about 2.5 miles.
You are responsible for your own safety throughout and the main road must be crossed with care.
This event requires a minimum of ten bookings in order to run. The bookings will close on Tuesday 19th March at 1800. If insufficient bookings received, payments will be returned.
