2601: Future Museum

2601: Future Museum

Kelvin HallGlasgow, Glasgow
Overview

Go behind the scenes in The Hunterian collections to explore objects up close, as we imagine what museums might look like in the year 2601!

This session is part of Glasgow Science Festival 2026, and is open to families and children aged 10+.

Go behind the scenes in The Hunterian collections to explore objects up close, as we imagine what museums might look like hundreds of years from now.

This year the University of Glasgow celebrates its 575th anniversary, join us as we look another 575 years ahead to ask: what might life be like in 2601? Will the University or the Hunterian Museum still be here?

Which objects might survive? How will climate change shape the way we store objects, and what we store? What will be the role of a museum in 2601, and who will decide it?

Join Hunterian Communications & Audiences Coordinator Eleni Stavrou and Curator of Scientific & Medical History Collections Nicky Reeves, for an exploration of collections present and future. This session is an opportunity to see objects from across The Hunterian collections which are not currently on public display.
