A pragmatic approach to working with animals professionally
From emotion to message: A pragmatic approach to working with animals professionally - As animal care professionals we all acknowledge the importance of understanding the expression of emotions. But many studies show that even the most experienced of us are not very good at this when it comes to the more subtle emotions such as ‘anxiety’. However, what's more important is the message such emotions convey. This presentation aims to give you a set of tools, based on scientific methods such as hypothesis-testing, that will enable you to systematically narrow down and identify what an animal is trying to communicate. This will prove invaluable in formulating a solution to address and fulfil the animal’s needs, whilst also considering individual differences and contexts. The framework will also help you to confidently explain and guide the animal’s owner towards a more empathic understanding, while at the same time strengthening your professional relationship with them.
