About this event

Phil Thomas is a songwriter and storyteller. Family lore had it that Phil’s grandfather, Bill, was one of the ‘Home Children’ sent to Canada from British children’s homes as child labour in the 1920s. He became involved with bootlegging (or Rum Running as the Canadians called it). A story emerged that was stranger than fiction could ever have been. ‘Grandad Was A Rumrunner’ will take you to a world of speakeasies, blind pigs, flappers and much more. The story is a mix of evidence, memories and conjecture. Was Bill a bootlegger? Listen to the tale and judge for yourself.
