MORE DETAILS ABOUT NLMM
Similar to Yoga but different …
Yoga and the Non-Linear Movement Method (NLMM) are both movement practices that cultivate mind and body awareness:
- Each practice session is different because who you are in each moment is different.
- Most people walk away feeling a deeper connection to their body after the session.
- The more you practice (ideally daily or weekly), the easier it gets.
Although there are similarities, they are also very different from one another.
Yoga is very structured and linear. Typically, you move your body from one posture to the next with a clear outcome and goal in mind. You are still in “go mode” trying to achieve something with your body. The teacher is often instructing you on how you should breathe and how you should move.
As the name suggests, The Non-Linear Movement Method is about moving in an unstructured non-linear and non-habitual way.
Rather than imposing more demands on the body, we listen and work with the body and allow it to move how it wants to move.
So much about life is about focusing and doing more and doing better, and this practice is totally different. It’s about becoming present to what is actually happening in your body and moving this (rather than striving for something different).
Nicola Parish is a Reiki Healer (10+ years' experience) and a Women’s Embodiment Coach, dedicated to rewilding and reconnecting women with their pleasure. You can find out more on her website www.nicola-parish.co.uk
